Device Tracking

Sometimes, a Skyward feature evolves over time to support tasks we never could have imagined when it was originally developed. 

Did you know you can use Textbook Tracking to manage your devices as well? 

Textbook Tracking 

Using the Textbook Master under Administration, click Add to create a new record. 

This record, typically used for the title of a textbook, will represent one type of device, for example, Chromebooks, iPads, desktop computers, or wireless accessories. 

Choose and enter a device code first. 

Then fill in the fields for short and full names, model, serial number, and cost. 

The price reflects what students will owe if they lose or damage the device. 

Device records can be created either at the individual school entity level, or at the district level then moved when the devices are sent to a specific school. 

Check Classroom Book to keep the device in the building and prevent it from being circulated to students. 

Fill in the total inventory you have for this device. 

Be sure to keep the Have to Return field checked, otherwise the system will not expect users to return the device. 

Next, we'll create our individual device records. 

Individual Device Tracking 

Expand the book details, then click Create Books. 

Enter the total number to create based on your inventory and the number to begin from. This field supports barcode numbers, too. 

Then click Create. 

The system will create a record for each individual device. 

From here, devices can be assigned to entities, students, and staff, or linked to courses and classes. 

Different entry options help you see who is in possession of each device and keep notes about the device's condition to determine when they need to be replaced.
