Skyward complies with the federal data security regulations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
FERPA permits school officials to access a student’s personally identifiable information if they have a legitimate educational interest in that information. Skyward gives school officials the tools to assign security to their users in a way that matches the district’s interpretation of the FERPA requirements. FERPA also gives parents the rights to inspect and review their children’s education records, which is achieved using Skyward Family Access. The district controls the information that is available to parents in Family Access through security settings.
HIPPA applies to Health Services and Skyward is HIPPA compliant. We allow the district to track and report on immunizations and vaccinations, complete nurse’s log with freeform notes, and simple, accurate medication administration tracking. In addition, state requirements are all pre-loaded, allowing the district to maintain accountability of a student while in the health office.
