STEVENS POINT, Wis. (March 17, 2015) – Top administrators gathered in St. Pete Beach, Fla. for the 13th annual Skyward international conference (iCon). The three-day interactive event provided attendees with access to the latest information about the leading K-12 software provider, as well as one-on-one interaction with Skyward executives.
Based on the theme “Be Brilliant,” iCon sessions highlighted advanced features and product enhancements for 2015 with strategies educators can take back and implement, which will provide real cost-savings and improve daily operations.
“The education landscape is continually changing and more demands are put on districts to achieve success,” said Scott Glinski, president of Skyward. “Skyward continues to enhance its solution to meet district goals, state requirements, and stakeholder approval. We’re excited to announce the progress we made and look forward to this year’s continued improvement.”
For the first time at iCon, Skyward honored the recipients of the Leader in Excellence Award, a new annual program that recognizes K-12 districts and individuals using Skyward to improve education and inspire new ideas and initiatives.
Individual recipients:
- John Reiels, director of technology at Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wis.
- Dr. R.J. Gravel, director of instructional technology at Johnsburg School District 12 in Johnsburg, Ill.
- Charles Mikeska, assistant superintendent at West Independent School Districts in West, Tex.
District recipients:
- Deerfield Public School District 109, Ill.
- Grapevine- Colleyville Independent School District, Tex.
In addition to honoring this year’s Leaders in Excellence, Skyward revealed a new framework to the mobile app, which will launch in June. The recreation of the app will reduce page loads, increase data capacity, and provide better browse functionality, to name a few.
The company also announced the launch of the Professional Development Center (PDC), an online university. The PDC provides lower training costs to customers and reduces overall travel for employees. Originally piloted in Tennessee, the company saw less calls to the support line and reduced cost employee training. In addition, attendees learned how resources within Skyward can assist with Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting. Beginning in 2016, schools will be required to report which employees are eligible for insurance based on full time status.

‘brilliant’ ways they use the different modules and tools. It also gives customers a chance to put faces to the names of Skyward staff, and to feel more a part of the Skyward family,” said Carmen Kizmann, programmer/analyst from St. Lucie Public Schools in Florida.
