THE PARENT ENGAGEMENT CHALLENGE
Parents can be your greatest allies, but only if they feel included in the educational process. What can you do to forge a stronger bond with your largest stakeholder group?
LET'S CLEAR UP SOME MISCONCEPTIONS
Parent engagement is not about helping kids with homework.
It's about awareness and opportunity.
WHAT'S THE REAL PROBLEM?
Unfortunately, only 20% of parents are fully engaged with their child's school...
...and fewer than 25% of parents can name a basic milestone their child should have reached within the past year.
These problems aren't happening in a vacuum, either. When relationships falter between schools and parents, bad things start to happen.
But it's not all doom and gloom. Parent engagement has become a point of emphasis for high-performing schools, and it shows in the results.
In one study, parent awareness of upcoming homework assignments and tests resulted in a 30% increase in improved readers and a 38% increase in math.
SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS EVERYWHERE ARE MAKING A POINT TO:
"From paying school meals online, to seeing attendance, grades, and missing assignments, parents have a great overview of how their children are doing."
