LC-M introduces ‘Family Access’ program

February 20, 2009

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville District has implemented a new program called “Family Access,” which gives parents the ability to view their children’s educational records on line. The new webbased service allows parents/guardians to view attendance records, grades, schedules, food service account balances, discipline issues, report cards and more, with a simple “point and click.”

Using secure logins and passwords, a family’s privacy is never an issue and the system helps eliminate surprises at parent/teacher conferences and report card time because parents can check their student’s progress on a daily basis. When parents and teachers get together with upto- date information, they are better able to design the student’s education plan.

According to Assistant Superintendent Greg Perry, “Connecting the classroom to the community gives everyone the advantage. Parents benefit from being better informed, teachers benefit from having concise documentation and performance records, but students benefit the most from the parent/teacher team approach.”

To gain access to the program, the parents/guardians are required to attend an orientation session before being issued a login and password to the system. The first three sessions have been well attended and additional sessions are scheduled in both the Mauriceville and Little Cypress communities during the day and in the evenings to allow parents to attend at their convenience. Parents may attend any orientation that fits their schedule, regardless of whether or not their child attends that campus.

Parent orientation sessions are currently scheduled for:

  • Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at Little Cypress Intermediate.
  • March 3 at noon at the Education Center.
  • March 5 at noon at the Education Center.
  • March 19 at 6 p.m. at Little Cypress Elementary.
  • March 24 at 6 p.m. at Mauriceville Middle School.
  • April 7 at 10 a.m. at the Education Center.
  • April 16 at 5 p.m. at the Education Center.
  • May 7 at 6 p.m. at the Education Center.
  • May 12 at 3 p.m. at the Education Center.

The Education Center is located at the Special Programs Office across the street from the Administration Building.

Instructional Technology Specialist Peggy Hale is conducting the parent orientation sessions and can be reached at 670-4601 for additional information.
