Menahga School implements new online grading system
January 28, 2009
Students may not like it, but parents love it.
The new online grading system offered in Menahga School is now up and running.
“Students come up to me and say ‘man, my parents are after me now,’” activities director and
academic advisor Brian Johnson told the Menahga School Board during last week’s meeting, as
he gave a presentation of the new system.
While the old-fashioned way of mailing report cards will still continue to be used to inform parents
of their children’s quarterly grades, the Skyward system gives families daily updates on their
students’ attendance and assignments.
Staff began using their online grade books last semester in order to master it before going live for
parents and students this semester.
Parents and students were given log-in information that can be changed any time.
In addition to grade books, parents will be able to update students’ emergency contacts and
check immunization records online.
Parents can also keep tabs on their students’ whereabouts during the day. If a student cuts
class, it’s recorded instantly online.
The board encourages those without Internet access to use the public library or call teachers if
they’d like grades or assignment information, that’s posted online, mailed to them.
